Aria Rostami

still from the things we made verse the things you destory
Aria_Rostami
I first discovered Aria Rostami from Leste Magazine.  They did an instagram takeover.  The only art I have found of theirs has been on the internet. They make videos and collaged images sometimes with story-like captions.  I think a lot of their art is about their queerness and how they define themselves.
They use a lot of roses in their art.

When they were working with leste, they posted about Iranian films that inspired them.  They made a series of collaged images using stills from the movie, Children of Heaven and self portraits.

ME, MY OWN IDOL

ME, as my own idol!

me
One time someone asked me what was the first piece of art I remember making, and you know what, it was me.  A self portrait! I'm so vain! This blogpost is about ME.   I love looking at myself, drawing myself, and thinking about myself! I am constantly in a state of self-reflection I think.............  but I hate talking about myself unless prompted

Some interesting things I often think about that have significantly influenced me as a person,

I used to think I was possessed by the devil

I used to force myself to entirely change my habits suddenly like I think that is very weird

Mainly that I thought I was possessed by the devil so I always didn't think I could have control of my thoughts!

Nelson Ramírez de Arellano

Nelson Ramírez de Arellano talked about the history of Cuban photography.  He showed various Cuban artists and how they influenced his work. The show was a collection of photographs from various Cuban artists.   He talked about how this camera collector guy let him use a really old camera that theres only two left! (how it still works, i don't know!)
The piece of his that was in the show was an image of a a body in a crunched position inside a suitcase.  The body was filled with an image of water.
His work also has themes of immigration/emigration.

Work in Progress

Image for animation
I used letterpress with images to create scenes for my zine.
After I made multiple cards, I thought of grouping the images to try to create a story about marriage or how I think of marriage probably because most of my rough drafts ended up looking like Valentine's Day cards.
By using these cards I was inspired to make an animation about marriage. I have a found image from a movie that I am going to photoshop animate.
It is an image of a bride holding candles and someone behind her.

My idea for a short storyline is:

Bride is getting ready with best friend, best friend is in love with the bride, the bride realizes that she doesn't want to marry the person she is about to and she sheds a tear and the candle breaks and once it hits the ground, the audience is transported to scenes of who she really loves!

Glitter's Things

Glitter

Rebecca is my friend who used to go by the name Glitter. I collected objects I found in her room to make a still life of her and asked her to dress as this cowboy character, based on exaggerations of her actual personality.

Outside of class, I often find myself creating shrine-like still lifes out of objects in my friends' rooms and in my house.  I have a tendency to collect and try to group found objects and images.

I want to work with collection of images and photographs to make storyboard zines for eventual stop motion animations possibly combined with rotoscope animation.

A previous stop-motion animation I created was called "Oohz."

That Smile!

I decided to make a 16mm animation with found footage.  I looked through johnie's collection and was mainly interested in the videos abo...
